Battlepanda calls for competition in publicizing Corey Maye outrage

Angelica at the liberal blog Battlepanda suggests a left vs. right competition in publicizing the plight of Corey Maye, condemned to execution in Mississippi for daring to defend himself and his infant child.

Angelica proceeds to list the blogs that a Technorati search shows as posting about this gross injustice, classifying them as “red” or “blue”, after the manner of the common color-coding of states and counties based on election returns favoring either Democrats or Republicans.

Interestingly, she notes:

I hope I’m not offending too many Libertarians, but I generally scored them as a point for the Red Team [right wing] unless it is obvious at a glance that they lean more to the left. It also seems funny to put the libertarian anarchists with the red team, so I have not put them in either catagory. If you feel like I have misplaced anyone, let me know.

As I’m one of those libertarian anarchists and she then links to my post on Cory Maye in a small list titled “Red or Blue?”, I suppose I ought to just say this — if we’re picking colors, my flag is black.

Generally, though, I’m currently more interested in bringing libertarian ideas to the left, and reciprocally learning from the left in return, than I was in the 1990’s (when I typically focused more on the right).

This is an issue where red, blue and all shades of purple (or even black) can work together. Battlepanda encourages us to do this with: Let’s make this a competition. I am going to keep track of right and left wing blogs mentioning the Cory Maye to see which side is doing a better job. [...]
