The government consumer protection racket strikes again

This is how government protects consumers — from the “burden” of informed decision-making about their own health, that is.

The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease.

That’s right — the USDA is prepared to do everything in its power to stop food safety testing for mad cow disease that a beef producer wants to carry out.

How did we get to this ridiculous point? No, it’s not just that the Bush admin, in particular, is collectively insane (although there’s a great deal of truth in that). This is not a call for the mythical chimera of “good government”. It’s a call for NO government.

This entire state capitalist system of corporate domination is not a free market. It is not free enterprise. Government as a monopoly of law is naturally captured by wealthy special interests that seek to politically stamp out free competition, in this case at the reckless expense of consumer safety. As I’ve said before, the Bush administration is not an aberration but the culmination of that corrupt system.

The answer to the problem is revolution.
