What gets me is Tom's emphasis on party over ideas. Even if Ron Paul is the humongous hypocrite that Knapp describes him as, as a consequence of his run he's airing ideas in the mainstream that would've never seen the light of day before. Hell, in one of the debates he openly said that our foreign policy is designed by and for the benefit of oil companies. Democrats got skewered for even so much as hinting 1/10th that kind of thing, now all of a sudden this old guy says it at a freakin' Republican debate?

Way I see it, if anything his campaign -- more accurately, its inevitable crash & burn -- could help left-libertarians. The possibility is that people see the gist of what he says, notice how the media & political elite slam him as a crank for it, and realize the problem is the political system itself. For the freedom oriented that still vote, Ron Paul, as a reformist, is Plan A; if we play our cards right, outright rejection of the State can gain popularity as Plan B.

The Libertarian Party is a stain on the ideal of freedom. It is quite embarrassing.
