Haymarket remembered
The calendar tells me that today is the Labor Day that isn’t the Real Labor Day. Do read that link.
People who identify with the free market libertarian movement should remember that long before the super-statism of the twentieth century, the State was still a system of plunder enriching politically-connected plutocratic interests at the expense of the productive class. Benjamin Tucker, for example was a market anarchist advocating laissez faire in the midst of the late 19th century, which was NOT laissez faire.
The struggle for the eight hour work day, and the deaths of the anarchist Harmarket martyrs, can in retrospect, through a radical Rothbardian lens, be seen as the struggle to cope with a system of gross inequity in bargaining power deriving from state intervention in the market on behalf of the capitalists.
