Filibuster issue resolved? Not really.
In an episode reminiscent of the tale of the cad who said:
“It’s only rape if you struggle, baby.”
…a “deal” was reached today in the Senate to avoid the so-called “nuclear option” of Republicans engineering a putsch to eliminate the filibuster. When examined closely, though, the deal is a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a farce. Democrats can keep the theoretical ability to filibuster as long as they never use it.
Compromise is, indeed, a matter of give and take. Leave it to the Republicans to offer hypocrisy. Leave it to the Democrats to embrace symbolism over substance. A centrism between two such points offers America nothing.
