Black Magic Techno from Voodoo Velcro

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Voodo VelcroVery simply, if you like the Lords of Acid, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult and KMFDM, you’re undoubtedly going to love Voodoo Velcro. If Atlanta didn’t have a hardcore scene before these folks came along, their presence alone would have established one.
Black Magic Techno

Their recently-released EP, Black Magic Techno from World Empire Records, features seven tracks — four of which you can listen to for free on the band’s MySpace page (where you can also order Black Magic Techno, $10 w/ shipping included).

It takes a lot to actually get me to BUY music these days. Voodoo Velcro made that cut. I’ll be waiting to see if they can add a Midwest leg to their tour.

Forget Eliot Spitzer; Ashley Dupre can SING!

SDS/MDS is an option for left libertarians

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

I just want to reiterate my support for the new Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), the revival of the legendary 60’s New Left radical group. You may find it’s a pretty good avenue for your activism, particularly if there’s a scarcity of other left libertarians and/or anarchists in your local area and you need to find a non-sectarian and reasonably anti-authoritarian radical left group to work with. Heck, you may even want to organize your own autonomous chapter.

You can keep up with the latest from SDS (and their non-student auxiliary, Movement for a Democratic Society) at Next Left Notes, where you’ll find great stuff like this report on the recent “arrest Bush” action.

NLN editor Thomas Good, by the way, recently posted a great music video on YouTube for the Idiomatiks song Denial. It’s a photo montage of SDS/MDS activity from the NLN archives. Watch it below…

Spiderbait: Ghost Riders in the Sky

From the movie Ghost Rider, Spiderbait’s excellent cover of the classic Ghost Riders in the Sky

What would we do without the government?

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Great song by Matt Ames with lyrics expressing clearly anarchist/libertarian sympathies.

Goin Down to Baghdad

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Correspondent A.Z. writes:

Please consider linking to an anti-war protest music video by the Spicewood Seven of Austin, Texas. The award-winning video was directed by famed Italian post-neo-realist director Antonio Zapanini and shows the horror and insanity of the war from a grunt’s eye view.

Alt-country is not my usual fare, but how can I say no to that request? BTW, here are links to the Spicewood Seven and their Myspace page. Video follows…

George Bush is an Islamic Fundamentalist

Sunday, September 17th, 2006

Thanks to Adem Kupi for pointing out another great song — George Bush is an Islamic Fundamentalist. by Casetteboy & DJ Rubbish (and featuring Bill Clinton on sax).

George Bush is an Is-lam-ic fun-da-ment-alist, ob-vi-ous-ly.

Trained by Al Qah-hee-da in the heart of Texas
to fight for the faithful army.

He’s now in the process of unit-ing the rest of the world
against the good ole US of A.

The land of the free will come crashing down
if he has his way.

Now at this point, I would ask you all to sing along with the chorus normally,
if it wasn’t for the fact that there are cameras on the premises and the CIA might be requisitioning the tapes at any time.

So, I recommend that under all circumstances,
catchy though this number is,
you do not sing along,
you do not even smile

I recommend the most you do is tap your feet,
and you do that at your own risk.

George Bush is an Is-lam-ic fun-da-ment-alist, ob-vi-ous-ly.

The President’s Dead

Friday, September 15th, 2006

No, really — sort of. As Best Week Ever explained, it’s kind of a metaphorical reference to:

…Bush’s typical lack of charisma or intelligence…

…at least, in the context of the song The President’s Dead [mp3] reviewed here.

And while you’re at Best Week Ever, don’t forget to thank them for the public service of, ahem, turning you on to Lindsay Lohan’s vagina. Even if it isn’t the best pose, she’s still Lindsay Lohan.

Enochian Apocalypse: podcast episode three is out

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

The third podcast episode from The Enochian Apocalypse E-zine is now out. Download it direct in MP3 format here.

Enochian Apocalypse bills itself as “The best in electro, EBM, industrial, darkwave and goth music” and I’m not inclined to argue with them. The first episode of their podcast introduced me to Combichrist, with an opening track called “This is my rifle” that would make a fine soundtrack selection for a dark, dystopian, futuristic and extraordinarily violent action movie.

Here’s their podcast feed, but do check out the articles on the site as well.
